Erotica Review: Voices Carry by July Cumming

Voices Carry is a trio of erotica ebooks about a well-hung, horny, appealing older man named Tom, and his step-daughter Samantha (and some of her friends). I’m not going to spoil anything, although the main thrust of the series is what you would suspect.

What you wouldn’t suspect is how well-done it is, unless you already know July Cumming’s work. I didn’t and I was more than pleasantly surprised, I was completely engrossed, and completely aroused more than once.

I know that good writing doesn’t use the word ‘very’ often, because you can find stronger words. I don’t know stronger words for very taboo and very naughty. I could say it’s scalding or blistering or orgasmic instead of calling it very hot, but I’ll just stick with very hot. The pacing is fast and just well-timed enough that I wondered if she didn’t do all of her rewrites and edits one-handed to keep time with her readers, and then I realized she just gave me a great idea.

After reading this series July Cumming is one of my new favorites. Some reviews give the old ‘too much exposition’ complaint. I get that too sometimes, when a reader feels you’re diving into the character at the expense of the hot sex. It’s a personal preference and it’s never a ‘wrong’ criticism, but to me, there’s nothing ‘slow’ about these books. July just writes realistic characters who experience changes from the beginning to the end, so that when they do finally get somewhere, the sex feels even more taboo and scorching. Get it here.
